Every student that walks through our classroom door is different, differences that often present unique challenges (and hindrances) to the classroom learning environment and teacher instruction. Best practice tells us sending students who disrupt to the office is not an effective strategy. So what do we do? In this session, we will explore the “Why?” behind student challenges with the goal of understanding the issue a little better. Then we will look at proactive measures in the form of suggestions, tools and tactics to support teachers in their instruction, not only of students with challenges, but with all students. Applicable to all secondary educators and of particular interest to new teachers.
